The PDF Portfolio
Due Date: May 14
Points
There are no additional points for the Portfolio. Major Assignments must appear on the Portfolio to receive full credit.
Overview
In a Nutshell. Your Final Portfolio will include (in a single PDF file) revised and polished versions of all major writing assignments, as well as a new essay, the Self-Assessment Essay (see below). Your purpose is to showcase your final products and demonstrate the learning you’ve accomplished this semester.
Format. The Final Portfolio should be submitted as a single PDF file and should follow MLA style guidelines. Any assignment that includes sources citations should include a Works Cited page. It is recommended that you use Microsoft Word (or Microsoft 365, free to CCNY students) to prepare your Final Portfolio before exporting your file as a PDF. But you are welcome to use software of your choice.
Organization. Your Final Portfolio should contain and be organized as follows:
- a personalized cover page that includes your name, the date, the words “Final Portfolio,” our course name, and your instructor’s name (images, color, and creativity also welcome!)
- a table of contents
- your Self-Assessment Essay (revised and polished based on feedback)
- each of your major writing assignments in any order (revised and polished based on feedback)
- 3-4 sentence abstracts accompanying each assignment, introducing its genre and purpose
- any additional documents you choose to include (optional)
Optional Content. You can also choose to include additional documents (or screenshots/portions of documents) you composed this semester that help you demonstrate your learning this semester.
So what sorts of “additional documents” might you include? You may want to include earlier drafts of essays, examples of homework completed, class freewrites or other work (e.g., peer reviews), copies of your annotations of course texts, copies of notes you took while reading, etc.
Be mindful that the documents you choose to include in your Portfolio should be referenced in your Final Self-Assessment Essay (see below). You will describe the documents, and their significance, in your essay. Thus, you should be very choosy in selecting which documents best represent your development as a writer and be ready to refer to them in the Self-Assessment Essay.
